Summer 2020 – Writing Workshop

As scientists, were are judged by our writing skills. In particular, writing abstracts is an integral part of communicating our science and is usually the first impression a reader has on your research. During this workshop we will 1) discuss successful writing strategies and habits, 2) learn to write an effective scientific abstract, 3) participate in a mock abstract review board.

Summer 2020 – Statistics Workshop

Weak or strong, we could all use some reps on the statistical equipment in the discipline. So, let’s flex those stats muscles! In this workshop we will 1) See how others are using statistics to evaluate data in their own research, 2) explore a topic you feel weak in, or never learned, 3) expose ourselves to new statistical topics, 4) discuss common pitfalls associated with data analysis.

Summer 2020 – Science Communication Workshop

Let’s practice communicating our science! No matter the field of study or stage in our career, we could all improve our science communication skills. Join us to 1) see how others are communicating science in a few minutes, 1) practice your pitch with different audiences, 3) build your research topic into a compelling story, and 4) discuss the barriers we experience to effective communication.

Summer 2019 – Statistics Workshop

The interpretation of data we generate as biologists is often incomplete without the proper implementation of statistical tools. However, it is commonplace for biologists to be deficient in statistical thinking. The goal of this workshop is to 1) remind us about fundamental concepts we may have forgotten (or never learned), 2) expose ourselves to new statistical topics, 3) discuss common pitfalls associated with data analysis
